Driver Training
AB Texel has a long-standing and highly successful history in training to maximise safe working practices and help its workforce
achieve their full career potential.
At the core of the Company’s activities is Driver Training. On joining the company, every driver attends an intensive two day
driver induction course to ensure new personnel match up to the exceptionally high standards of service and quality that is
expected of an AB Texel driver.
During their induction, drivers are issued with a personal Driver Manual and pack containing essential information. The Drivers
Manual is packed with important information ranging from customer location maps through to information on EU driving hours and
regulations; helping to maximise safe working, efficiency and awareness of clients’ special requirements.
The AB Texel Training Programme was initially created & developed by the RHA for and on behalf of AB Texel. This Programme is
called 'The Way Forward' and is a subset of a series of modules designed by the RHA to help individuals within AB Texel achieve
ongoing self improvement. The course leads to the professional development of AB Texel Staff resulting in improved public
relations, higher standards and job satisfaction.
The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
As of the 10th September 2009, all newly qualified HGV drivers who wish to drive professionally require a Driver Certificate of
Professional Competence (Driver CPC) as per EU Directive 2003/59. As of this date, it is a legal requirement to hold and undergo
continual training in order to hold a Driver CPC. You need both a HGV driving licence and a Driver CPC in order to drive
professionally for a living.
The purpose of the Driver CPC is to improve road safety. It is a European Directive so it will be rolled out throughout Europe, subjecting
the majority of European truck, coach and bus drivers to follow the same requirements.
In order to maintain the Driver CPC qualification, all category C and D licence holders (including C, C+E, C1, C1+E, D, D+E, D1 and D1+E)
will be required to undertake 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years or 7 hours (in one block) training per year for 5 years.
